Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 25-year-old Dalton O. Edge, Jr. of Buffalo was sentenced this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to 9 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, at approximately 2:04 a.m., the defendant, while acting in concert with co-defendant Kyle Mickens, fired multiple shots from an illegal gun into moving vehicle on the 400 block of Pearl Street in the City of Buffalo. Investigators recovered numerous fired cartridge casings from the scene.

One person inside of the vehicle was injured by gunfire. The victim, a 25-year-old woman who was in the front passenger seat, was treated at ECMC for serious physical injuries to her leg.

Another victim, a 23-year-old man who was on the opposite side of the street, was also injured by gunfire. He was taken by ambulance to ECMC to be treated for a gunshot wound to his hip.

Edge pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class “B” violent felony), two counts of Assault in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felonies) and One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to all counts in the indictment against him on February 14, 2023. Today, he was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

Edge also pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony) in a separate case. On May 1, 2021, the defendant was driving on Bailey Avenue when he was stopped by police for failing to signal while turning westbound onto East Delavan Avenue. Officers saw a handgun in plain view on the floor of the front passenger side of the vehicle. The illegal, loaded gun was submitted into the evidence. The defendant was linked to the gun through DNA analysis. Edge was sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison, which will be served consecutive to his sentence in the shooting case.

His co-defendant, 24-year-old Kyle M. Mickens of Buffalo, was sentenced to 9 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. Mickens also pleaded guilty, as charged, to one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Assault in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felonies) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony).
