Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that an 18-year-old male from Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before Buffalo City Court Judge Tiffany R. Perry to a one-year conditional discharge. As conditions of his sentence, the defendant must complete 60 hours of community service and continue with counseling.
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, at approximately 11:37 a.m., the defendant posted a threat directed toward Canisius University on a social media platform. The defendant, who was a student at the college at the time of the incident, was quickly identified as the suspect and placed under arrest.
The defendant pleaded guilty to one count of Making a Threat of Mass Harm (Class “B” misdemeanor) in January 2025. The defendant was adjudicated as a youthful offender due to his age at the time of the crime. Therefore, our office will no longer be releasing his name.
DA Keane commends Detective Nicole Wrazen and members of the Buffalo Police Department Threat Management Unit for their work in this investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kevin L. Southern of the Felony Trials Bureau.
