Defendants Who Attempted to Carjack Elderly Victim Outside West Seneca Grocery Store Plead Guilty

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 22-year-old Andre A. Washington, Jr., also known as “Dre,” of Buffalo and 20-year-old Makeigh A. Brown, also known as “Kye,” of Cheektowaga pleaded guilty this morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree (Class “D” felonies). Both defendants pleaded guilty to the highest charge in full satisfaction of the indictments against them.

On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at approximately 7:12 p.m., the defendants, while acting in concert with one another, attempted to forcibly steal a vehicle, a 2023 Kia SUV, from a parking lot outside of a grocery store on Orchard Park Road in the Town of West Seneca. After approaching the elderly victim, one defendant displayed what appeared to be a handgun in an attempt to carjack the victim as he placed groceries inside of the vehicle. The victim thwarted the robbery attempt by kicking one of the defendants, which caused the victim to fall to the ground. The defendants subsequently fled from the parking lot.

Washington and Brown each face a maximum of 7 years in prison when they are sentenced on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. Both remain held without bail pending sentence.

DA Flynn commends the West Seneca Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Ryan M. Flaherty and Kevin L. Southern of the Felony Trials Bureau.
