Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Shannon O. Rose, 19, of Sloan, pleaded guilty this afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Kelly Vacco to one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm (Class E felony). Rose pleaded guilty to the only sustainable charge.
On the morning of Sunday, July 20, 2025, the defendant discharged a firearm through a door during a domestic incident involving another person inside of a residence on the 100 block of Lackawanna Avenue in the Village of Sloan. After traveling through the door, the bullet ricocheted and subsequently injured a toddler in another room. The victim, a two-year-old male child, was taken by ambulance to Oishei Children’s Hospital. The child continues to recover from the injury. The investigation determined that the defendant fired the weapon in self-defense.
Rose faces a maximum of four years in prison when he is sentenced before Judge Vacco on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. He remains held without bail.
Marcus Oluwa, Jr., 20, of no permanent address, was indicted on one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C violent felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D felony). Oluwa was arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case on Friday, July 25, 2025.
During the investigation into the non-fatal shooting in the Village of Sloan, the defendant was allegedly found in possession of a loaded, illegal gun equipped with a large capacity magazine at a location in the City of Buffalo.
Oluwa is scheduled to return on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. He remains held on bail set at $100,000 cash or bond. If convicted of the highest charge, Oluwa faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
DA Keane commends the Cheektowaga Police Department, Buffalo Police Department and New York State Police for their work in this investigation.
The cases are being prosecuted by Chief Ashley M. Morgan, Assistant District Attorney Frank A. Strano and Assistant District Attorney Timothy J. Garvin of the Major Crimes Bureau as well as Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the Homicide Bureau.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
