Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Jahmil A. Paisley, 31, of Cheektowaga, was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi. Paisley received an indeterminate sentence of 2 to 6 years in prison.
On Friday, October 18, 2024, at approximately 3:24 p.m., police and paramedics responded to an apartment on Slate Creek Drive in the Town of Cheektowaga after receiving a 911 call for an unresponsive child. The victim, 21-month-old Logan Paisley, was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital of Buffalo where he was pronounced dead. The defendant recklessly caused the death of his son by leaving him unattended inside of a vehicle for an extended period of time. The toddler died from dehydration.
In November 2025, Paisley pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree (Class C felony). Paisley pleaded guilty to the sole count of the indictment.
DA Keane commends Lieutenant Detective Justin Haag, Detective Jeffrey Fial and Officer Spencer Bruno of the Cheektowaga Police Department for their work in this investigation as well as ECDA victim advocate Kimberly Rapp.
The case was prosecuted by Chief Ashley M. Morgan of the Major Crimes Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Abbi L. Fuhrken of the Domestic Violence Bureau.
