Buffalo Man Sentenced as Persistent Violent Felony Offender on Gun Charge

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 33-year-old Terrance Boyd of Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek to 16 years to life in prison. He was sentenced as a persistent violent felony offender. 

On Monday, August 16, 2021, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Buffalo Police officers on routine patrol initiated a traffic stop on the 1300 block of East Ferry Street in the City of Buffalo for a vehicle that did not have a front license plate. As the officers approached the vehicle, they witnessed the defendant, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, hand a bag to a person who was sitting in the backseat. Officers recovered the bag from underneath the front passenger seat, which contained a loaded, illegal handgun. The defendant was linked to the gun through DNA analysis.  

In October 2023, a jury found Boyd guilty of one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony) after approximately two hours of deliberation following a four-day trial, convicting the defendant of the only charge in the indictment against him.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Samantha N. King of the Narcotics/Intelligence Bureau and Assistant District Attorney John P. Gerken, Jr. of the Homicide Bureau.
