Buffalo Man Sentenced for Fatal Shooting in City's Masten Park Neighborhood

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Martinko Jamel Caver, 45, of Buffalo, was sentenced yesterday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to 15 years to life in prison.  

On Monday, September 5, 2022, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the defendant intentionally shot the victim with an illegal gun on the 300 block of Glenwood Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 33-year-old George McGee, III, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was pronounced dead. 

Caver pleaded guilty to one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest count in full satisfaction of the indictment on November 25, 2024.

DA Keane commends Detective Thomas Nunan and Detective Sgt. Keith Fitzner of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation. 

The case was prosecuted by First Deputy District Attorney Gary W. Hackbush, former Chief of the Homicide Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Ryan M. Flaherty of the Major Crimes Bureau.
