Buffalo Man Pleads Guilty in Fatal Shooting in City's Masten Park Neighborhood

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Martinko Jamel Caver, 45, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest count in full satisfaction of the indictment.  

On Monday, September 5, 2022, at approximately 2:15 a.m., the defendant intentionally shot the victim with an illegal gun on the 300 block of Glenwood Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 33-year-old George McGee, III, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was pronounced dead. 

Caver faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. He remains held without bail.

Acting DA Keane commends Detective Thomas Nunan and Detective Sgt. Keith Fitzner of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation. 

The case was prosecuted by Chief Gary W. Hackbush of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Ryan M. Flaherty of the Major Crimes Bureau.
