Buffalo Man Indicted for Killing One, Injuring Two in Shooting Inside Downtown Nightclub

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 20-year-old Sharief McBroom of Buffalo was arraigned this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony), two counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class “B” violent felonies) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony).

It is alleged that on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the defendant intentionally fired multiple shots at the victim inside of a nightclub on the 100 block of Michigan Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 21-year-old Jorge Garcia Leon, died at the scene. Two other people were injured by gunfire. The surviving victims were transported by ambulance to ECMC.

Today, the defendant was located in South Buffalo where he was arrested on a warrant for a sealed indictment.

McBroom is scheduled to return on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. He was held without bail.

If convicted of the highest charge, McBroom faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison.    

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department and US Marshals Office for their work in this investigation.

These cases are being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Assistant District Attorney Ryan D. Haggerty of the Homicide Unit.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
