Buffalo Man Indicted for Fatal Shooting in City's Cold Springs Neighborhood

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Alfonzo D. Quinney, 48, of Buffalo, was arraigned yesterday morning before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class ā€œA-Iā€ felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class ā€œCā€ violent felony). 

It is alleged that on Friday, September 6, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Buffalo Police officers responded to a reported shooting on the 100 block of Northland Avenue. The victim, 28-year-old Elijah Mingo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The defendant is accused of intentionally causing the death of the victim by shooting him with an illegal gun.

Quinney was held without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.

If convicted of the highest charge, Quinney faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. 

Acting DA Keane commends Detective Rita Ruffin and Detective Rachael Isch of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation. 

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John P. Gerken, Jr. of the Homicide Bureau. 

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
