Buffalo Man Arraigned on Assault Charge for Injuring Victim in Fight as Death Investigation Continues

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 22-year-old Craig M. Lynch, Jr. of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Gary A. Wilson, Jr. on one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class ā€œDā€ felony). 

It is alleged that on Monday, March 25, 2024, at approximately 9:22 p.m., the defendant and the victim were involved in a physical altercation at a location on the 100 block of Minnesota Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The victim was taken by ambulance to ECMC with injuries to his head and face. The defendant was subsequently arrested for allegedly assaulting the victim.

The victim, a 32-year-old male, later died from the injuries at the hospital. 

Lynch is scheduled to return on Monday, April 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. for a felony hearing. Prosecutors requested that the defendant be remanded as the investigation into potential homicide-related charges continues. He was held without bail. 

If convicted of the charge, Lynch faces a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John P. Gerken, Jr. of the Homicide Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
