Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 49-year-old Maggie A. Coyle of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Rebecca L. Town on the following New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law offenses:
- One count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident without Reporting Resulting in Personal Injury (Class “A” misdemeanor)
- One count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (unclassified misdemeanor)
- One count of Driving While Intoxicated (unclassified misdemeanor)
- Two counts of Failure to Exercise Due Care (violations)
It is alleged that on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the defendant was driving, while under the influence of alcohol, on Cazenovia Street in the City of Buffalo when she hit two pedestrians while turning her vehicle onto Cumberland Avenue. The defendant allegedly drove away from the scene without reporting the incident to police. The defendant was located a short time later by responding Buffalo Police officers.
A female victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The second victim, a 23-year-old male, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was treated for a head injury and released.
Coyle is scheduled to return on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. Her driver’s license was suspended while the case is pending prosecution.
If convicted of the highest charge, Coyle faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
