Joseph A. Agro

Joseph A. Agro was named Deputy District Attorney- Litigation on January 1, 2017, leaving private practice to join District Attorney John J. Flynn’s Leadership Team. 

Mr. Agro began his legal career with the Erie County District Attorney’s Office and served as an Assistant District Attorney from 2001 – 2005 under Frank J. Clark.  He handled thousands of criminal matters in Buffalo City Court and Erie County Justice Courts.  Joe honed his skills as a trial attorney in Erie County Superior Courts, making his way through the Grand Jury, and Felony Trials Bureaus.  There he specialized in investigating hundreds of violent crimes and handled several homicides. 

In 2006, Agro left the DA’s office to pursue a career as a private trial attorney.  He briefly joined the small boutique law firm of Cook and Gawronski, where he handled complex Federal and State, civil/ criminal investigations.  Later that year Mr. Agro opened his own law practice, The Law Office of Joseph A. Agro, concentrating his focus on all Federal and State criminal matters. 

In 10 years of operation, Joe’s firm represented thousands of criminal clients in both State and Federal Court where he specialized in violent crimes, RICO conspiracies, violent Sexual assaults, professional representation and Homicides. In that time, Mr. Agro tried many serious, complex criminal matters to verdict.  He also handled Federal death-eligible matters within the Western and Southern District of New York. 

Joe has dedicated his entire career to the practice of criminal law where he has received awards for his expertise and accomplishments.  He has lectured for the Bar Association, police, and other law enforcement agencies as both a prosecutor and defense attorney regarding ethics, DNA evidence and search and seizure. 

Mr. Agro is a graduate of Canisius High School.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Canisius College where he graduated with honors.  He obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from Syracuse University, School of Law.

Joe has been a proud lifelong resident of the City of Buffalo.
