PUBLIC NOTICE
The Village of Akron is proposing the replacement of the State Street bridge crossing Murder Creek, which has been closed to vehicular traffic since 2008. The proposed bridge will be in the same location as the previous bridge and include an integral pedestrian sidewalk, necessitating the need to remove the existing pedestrian bridge to the east. This project will restore the connection from the northern part of the village to the southern part of the village making it easier for school buses, emergency vehicles, local deliveries, and residents to once again cross the creek.
As a result of the project, a minimal amount of land within Akron Falls County Park immediately adjacent to the bridge will be temporarily disturbed to accommodate the removal & replacement of the structural wingwalls; this land will be regraded and seeded upon completion of the wingwalls.
The project is partially Federally-funded through the Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) program as administered through the NYS Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). Akron Falls County Park is a recognized public recreational use and is provided protection from adverse impacts associated with federal-aid transportation projects under Section 4(f) – 23 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 774.
The Village of Akron is notifying the public that it will request the Federal Highway Administration to make a de minimus (or minor) impact finding for said action as there will be no negative impacts on activities, features, and attributes that quality the recreation area for protection under Section 4(f). The Village is seeking public input regarding the project and the proposed impact finding.
Additional information on the project may be obtained from Village Hall. Public comments are to be received in writing within 30 days of this notice or at the next Village Board of Trustees meeting on January 8, 2024.
