Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro says the Erie County Legislature has approved funding to begin the right of way work for William Street reconstruction. The measure, approved at the November 21 session, allows Erie County to enter into a supplemental agreement with the New York State Department of Transportation for reconstruction of William Street from Transit Road to Bowen. It also authorizes Erie County to enter into a contract amendment with design firm C&S Engineers.
“I know this road has been an issue for residents for quite some time. By providing the funding to begin this work, we will move forward with the process that will ultimately lead to the reconstruction of William Street,” said Legislator Todaro.
The daily traffic count on that stretch of William Street is between 8,900 and 14,000 vehicles. The project will include some pavement rehabilitation, areas of pavement widening, stormwater drainage replacement and select areas of sidewalk installation. The design and incidentals cost is $494,000, with the NYS DOT reimbursing 80% of that cost.
“Erie County must take care of the roads we own. By approving this measure, we can now move forward with the next phase. This is an important step. I appreciate the patience of the residents. Maintaining our infrastructure is vital, not only to our quality of life, but to ensuring the safety of motorists. I’m glad William Street will soon be getting the attention it has long needed,” said Legislator Todaro.
