Legislator Lorigo approves Hawk Creek Wildlife Center improvements

Legislator Joe Lorigo approved funding for improvements to the Hawk Creek Wildlife Center in the Town of Aurora. These improvements will allow the Center to achieve Zoological Association of America accreditation which will give them greater access to conservation resources and networks. Work to be performed includes installing a walk-in freezer for animal food storage, a new garage for maintenance equipment, gravel for parking areas and trails and various other site improvements.

“Hawk Creek is a great organization that does the important work of educating the public about conservation and supporting endangered species,” said Lorigo. “I am happy to approve this funding that will go a long way in improving their facilities.”

This program is authorized under the RENEW Plan and will be allocated American Rescue Plan funds up to $100,000. There are a number of other programs funded under the RENEW Plan totaling $660,000 and there is no anticipated fiscal impact on the county.
