Erie County, NY – Erie County Republican Legislators rejected an amended policy for use of the Erie County’s Bills suite, saying it doesn’t go far enough to limit access to elected officials. However, the policy ultimately passed. Republican lawmakers presented their own amendment to the policy, which would have absolutely prohibited any elected official from entering or using Erie County’s hospitality suite at any time, without exception. But that amendment was defeated.
“The Democrats amendment simply didn’t go far enough in restricting use by elected officials. That isn’t who should be using that suite at any time, no exceptions,” said Minority Leader and Erie County Legislator John Mills.
“There is nothing in the other amended policy that truly restricts access, and that concerns me. It should never be used by people in elected positions when there are so many non-profits and quality organizations that are deserving,” said Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro.
“I was hoping the Majority Caucus would realize that creating loopholes that would allow government officials into Erie County’s Hospitality Suite wasn’t the best option,” said Legislator Chris Greene, “when there are so many who never have the opportunity to attend a game.”
“If this policy is really about the people, why not ban political perks? This was a commonsense proposal. There should be no elected officials in the suite,” said Legislator Lindsay Lorigo.
