Erie County Legislator Chris Greene honored 17-year-old Brody Kaufman as Citizen of the Month for June 2025. Brody was on vacation with family in Florida in April when an imperiled kayaker was struggling in a fast-moving current beneath a bridge. Brody used ropes borrowed from a nearby fisherman to help orchestrate a 50-foot vertical rescue from the water to the bridge above, saving the kayaker's life. Earlier that same week, while traveling through the Atlanta airport, Brody provided first aid to an unconscious man in a restaurant until emergency responders arrived. Brody is an outstanding student-athlete, a lineman on the Clarence varsity football team, a member of the basketball and track teams, and a dedicated junior firefighter with the Harris Hill Volunteer fire Company, where he was named Junior Member of the Year.
