2026 Call for Artists

Thank you for your interest in the 2026 Call for Artists presented by the Erie County Arts in Public Places Committee. Following the initial Call for Artists released on March 16, 2026, the Committee determined that additional submissions are needed to better reflect the goals, mission, and physical context of the project location. As such, this revised Call for Artists is intended to encourage proposals that thoughtfully integrate with the site conditions, visitor experience, and broader vision of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens.

Please ensure all submission requirements are prepared before you begin the application process. Please follow the guidelines below:

- Text or photographic files are limited to 5 MB in size.
- File names should conform to the following format style: "artistname_photo1" or "artistname_sketch1"
- Acceptable file formats for pictures are: png, jpg, jpeg, tif, pdf, bmp, or gif.
- Acceptable file formats for text documents are: pdf, doc or docx.

Section 1: Artist Proposal

Artist Proposal: Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Garden

Description of proposed artwork: concept, dimensions, colors, themes

Upload a sketch or rendering of the proposed artwork (2 files maximum)

Description of the durability of the materials and maintenance requirements for the artwork to remain in optimal condition.

Description of installation requirements: Indicate if a subterranean preparation such as a concrete footing is required. Indicate if a special surround is required such as gravel, plantings or alteration of the terrain and provide proposed dimensions for these.

A project budget including design, engineering, fabrication, equipment and rentals, transportation, installation, insurance, artist’s fees and any and all costs associated with the project. Artists and contractors must be insured. Contractors should be licensed as necessary.

A rough timeline outlining the estimated time from design through fabrication and installation. (Note: The committee will require photographs of various stages of completion to release payments.)
