"This initiative seeks to make art accessible to all Erie County residents and visitors and to foster a sense of community connection and civic pride." (Local Law #4 of 2023, County of Erie, State of NY)
Introduced in 2023, the Public Art Act of Erie County provides a funding mechanism for public art related to certain Erie County capital construction projects. Depending on the size and type of the project, the County would allocate 1% of the cost of a building construction project (up to a maximum of $10,000 allocated) for the the acquisition, maintenance and management of public art.
The Erie County Arts in Public Places Committee which supports the program, is a group of five local volunteers who are experts in the fields of art, art history, architecture or architectural history. The Committee commissions, selects, places and preserves works of art in a variety of media.
