The Erie County Department of Public Works’ Highways Division has announced the completion of repair work to Berg Road, including the Berg Road Bridge. Berg Road originates in West Seneca and heads west, dipping into Orchard Park and eventually meeting Abbott Road in Lackawanna. Over 2 miles of roadway was milled and overlayed during the rehabilitation, which consisted of removing 3.5 inches of deteriorated material within the travel lanes and 1.5 inches of material on the shoulders. These materials were replaced with a Performance Graded Binder and a Top Course with polymer additives. In addition, 76 drainage structures along the roadway were refurbished.
Originally constructed in 1981, the deteriorated deck on the Berg Road Bridge over Smokes Creek was completely refurbished, with steel repairs made to the girders on the structure and new bearings to be installed in coming months. The $1.3 million total project was completed with a combination of PaveNY funding for the road portion and county-supplied funding for the bridge portion.
Clough Harbour and Associates performed engineering and construction inspection tasks on the project, while Oakgrove Construction was the contractor.
