The Erie County Department of Senior Services’ Health and Wellness Program has announced that the Spring 2019 University Express lifelong learning program is now accepting registrations from older adults interested in taking one or more of the exciting classes being offered.   The University Express program is a collaboration of the Erie County Department of Senior Services, Wegmans, Excelsior Orthopaedics, and BlueCrossBlueShield of Western New York and offers free, one-hour classes on nearly 90 different topics including current events, health, science, the arts, history, and more.

“Lifelong learning is an important part of healthy aging, and with the University Express program older adults have an opportunity to learn more about topics that are of interest to them and also discuss them with classmates,” said Erie County Commissioner of Personnel Timothy Hogues. “This popular program continues to offer though-provoking, educational, and helpful presentations in accessible settings to older residents and their peers. There is no homework, no tests, and no cost but the benefits of taking a class are enormous.”

Classes are specially designed for older adult learners and are held from late April – July at sites including the Amherst Senior Center, Baptist Manor, Canterbury Woods, Cheektowaga Senior Center, Clarence Senior Center, Town of Tonawanda Senior Center, City of Tonawanda Public Library, Elma Public Library, Grand Island Golden Age Center, the Greenfields, Hamburg Senior Community Center, Montabaur Heights/Brothers of Mercy, Orchard Park Senior Center, the Springville-Concord Elder Network, Town of Aurora Senior Center, and Town of Evans Senior Center.

Classes are free, but pre-registration is recommended by calling the site where the class will be held.  The University Express Spring 2019 course catalog can be viewed here, or call the Senior Services/NY Connects office for a paper copy of the schedule at 716-858-8526.  The schedule is also available at participating University Express sites and Buffalo and Erie County Public Library branches.
