Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz is participating in the 2021 National Association of Counties (“NACo”) annual conference in Prince Georges’ County, MD this weekend along with county elected and appointed officials from across the country.  Poloncarz is a member of NACo's Executive Committee as the Northeast Region Representative (from Maine to Maryland) and also serves as  the Vice Chair of NACo’s Large Urban County Caucus. This weekend he will join the caucus for a business meeting and will also participate in General Sessions featuring addresses from Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

“The annual NACo conference is a great way to connect with counterparts from across the country to discuss the ways that county government works for people, and how county government can do more,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz.  “County government is on the front lines, addressing the issues that affect peoples’ lives every day.  This weekend will include a multitude of work sessions, discussion groups, committee meetings, and workshops centered on how counties can better serve their residents.”

Numerous sessions on the American Rescue Plan and how it can help communities are featured throughout the conference, as well as workshops on Environment, Energy and Land Use; Housing and Homelessness; the Future of County Libraries; County Leaders for Equity in Governance; and much more.  Other speakers at the four-day conference include U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department Wally Adeyemo, and Chief of the U.S. Forest Service Vicki Christiansen, among others.
