Men and Women of All Ages will Compete Over Four Days in Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles Play

ERIE COUNTY, NY—Over 150 people have registered to participate in the first annual Chestnut Ridge Summer Classic Tennis Tournament, scheduled to take place starting today (Thursday, August 27) and continuing through this weekend at Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park.

Organizers plan to use all 12 tennis courts at Chestnut Ridge Park for the tourney, which will see men and women compete over a four-day period in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles action.

“This event is shaping up to be not only a busy one but larger than we originally expected,” said Erie County Commissioner of Parks, Recreation & Forestry Troy P. Schinzel. “This is a good thing and something we are very excited about. With the weather forecast looking favorable, we are looking forward to hosting what we expect to be an annual event at Chestnut Ridge Park that will help showcase our renovated tennis courts.”

Thanks to a recent capital improvement project, all 12 tennis courts at Chestnut Ridge Park were completely resurfaced, repaired, painted, and fitted with new hardware, nets, and posts. The tournament will feature men and women of all ages and skill levels for singles, doubles, and mixed doubles play. Each player is guaranteed two matches, with winners being determined by best of three sets. First and second place trophies will be awarded and complimentary food will be provided to participants.

Scheduled tournament times, which are subject to change, are as follows: Thursday, August 27 from 4 pm to 8 pm; Friday, August 28 from 4 pm to 8 pm; Saturday, August 29 from 9 am to 6 pm; and Sunday, August 30 from 9 am to 6 pm.

The tournament is sponsored by the Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry and the Chestnut Ridge Conservancy, which supports the restoration and preservation of the resources that comprise Chestnut Ridge Park.
