Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz (at podium) is joined by (L-R) Erie County Legislator Peter Savage, Erie County Public Works Commissioner John Loffredo, and Deputy Public Works Commissioner William Geary to announce the completion of a road project on Kenmore Avenue between Ontario Street and Military Road. Along with the milling and resurfacing of 300 feet of Kenmore Avenue, the project involved the removal of existing storm drains that had collapsed and failed under the CSX railroad bridge over Kenmore Avenue and the full-depth reconstruction of 129 feet of roadway under the CSX bridge to address the drainage issues, which had caused problems for motorists and public transportation in recent winters. The project was completed on Tuesday December 1 with the installation of guiderails and placement of a new concrete sidewalk.

Improvements to Drainage System, Installation of Guiderails and Sidewalks Highlight Project

ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Department of Public Works Highways’ Division has announced the completion of construction on the section of Kenmore Avenue between Ontario Street and Military Road, including and the road was opened to traffic last week.

“Kenmore Avenue is an important route into our community and is used by approximately 7,000 vehicles every day. These repairs were long overdue and represent not only my administration’s commitment to providing our residents with the best roads possible but also with my commitment to working with partners to improve our region,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “Working late in the construction season we were able to repair this road, improve the drainage under the railroad bridge, and create a better, safer roadway for motorists and pedestrians. This project caps off a busy year for our Department of Public Works and I thank them for all the work they’ve done.”


Erie County Legislator Peter Savage (3rd District) added,
“Addressing the long-standing drainage issues at the Kenmore Avenue viaduct has been one of my highest priorities since taking office, which is why I have worked tirelessly with the community and partners in government to ensure that this critical public safety project at the gateway between Buffalo and Tonawanda be completed this construction season."

Poloncarz and SavageThis phase of the Kenmore Avenue project was completed by Accadia Construction, whose $235,864 bid secured the contract. Designed by Wendel Engineers, the project necessitated close cooperation with CSX railroad in addressing and ameliorating the drainage problems under the bridge.
