Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 19-year-old Kenyatta Lee of Buffalo was arraigned yesterday morning before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek on an indictment charging him with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony).
It is alleged that on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Buffalo Police responded to investigate a shooting inside of Zone One Complex on East Amherst Street. The defendant and three other people were injured by gunfire. The defendant was allegedly seen in possession of an illegal, loaded handgun. A gun was found underneath a vehicle during the investigation. The defendant was taken to ECMC where he was treated for an injury to his foot.
The shooting remains under investigation at this time.
Lee is scheduled to return on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. for a pre-trial conference. He continues to be held without bail.
If convicted of the charge, Lee faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kevin R. Brown of the Felony Trials Bureau.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
