Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 28-year-old Keenen M. LaValley of Buffalo was sentenced this morning by Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to a determinate sentence of 12 years in prison followed by 20 years of post-release supervision. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.

The defendant sexually abused the child victims on numerous occasions between June 1, 2010 and September 1, 2017. The victims were 13-years-old or younger when the incidents occurred at a location in the City of Buffalo.

A jury convicted LaValley of two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Class “D” felonies) and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class “A” misdemeanor). The jurors rendered their verdict in early June 2021 after almost two days of deliberation following a nearly five-day trial.

Orders of protections were issued on behalf of the victims, which remain in effect until November 1, 2040.

DA Flynn commends retired Detective Julie Ledwin of the Buffalo Police Department Special Victims Unit for her work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Rebecca L. Schnirel and Justin H. Caldwell of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.
