Buffalo Man Indicted for Killing His Girlfriend's Baby

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 20-year-old Nasir Jackson of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony) and one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony).

The defendant is accused of recklessly engaging in conduct that caused the death of his girlfriend’s 7-month-old son, Ocean Reed, while the child was under his care at a location in the Town of Tonawanda. The infant was unresponsive when he was taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital where he died on Friday, December 10, 2021.

Jackson is scheduled to return on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. He continues to remain held without bail.

If convicted of the charge, Jackson faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends Captain William Krier, Detective Mark Muscoreil, and Detective Mark Scranton of the Town of Tonawanda Police Department for their work in the investigation.  

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ashley M. Morgan of the Homicide Unit.  

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
