Suspect in Stabbing at Wegmans is Arraigned on Attempted Murder Charges

Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita, III announced that 32 year old Awet Gebreyesus of 365 Busti Avenue, Buffalo, will be arraigned at 9:30 this morning before Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges on an indictment charging him with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree

It is alleged that on January 14, 2012, at Wegman’s, 601 Amherst Street, Buffalo, Gebreyesus repeatedly stabbed his 26 year old wife and was held by the civilian witnesses until the police arrived.

If convicted of these crimes, Gebreyesus faces a maximum prison sentence of 25 years.
