Erie County District Attorney  Frank A. Sedita, III announced that 24 year-old Darryl Jones of 1137 Hertel Avenue Buffalo, was convicted, as charged, after a jury trial, of the following charges: two counts of Murder in the Second Degree; one count of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree; and, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Jones’ conviction stems from the December 5, 2011 shooting of 28 year-old Stephan Sanders of Buffalo. Jones shot Sanders in the back during an attempt to rob him during a marihuana sale inside Sanders’ SUV. Two men who were present in the SUV at the time of the murder identified Jones as the killer.

Although there was no confession, no DNA, and the crime was not caught on video-tape, the defendant was indicted and successfully prosecuted by DA Sedita’s office. In commending the efforts of his prosecutors, Assistant District Attorney and Homicide Prosecutrix Colleen Curtin Gable, as well as Assistant District Attorney Sydney V. Probst, DA Sedita stated: “working with what they had, dedicated prosecutors from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office were able to present a compelling case, prove the defendant’s guilt beyond all reasonable doubt, and secure a conviction. Once again, another dangerous criminal has been brought to justice because of the professionalism of Erie County prosecutors.”

Jones was remanded into custody and faces a maximum of 25 years to life when he is sentenced on March 26, 2013 at 9:30 am before Supreme Court Justice Russell Buscaglia.
