Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita, III announced that 29 year old Krystal T. Rains of 144 Eiseman Avenue, Kenmore, pleaded guilty, as charged, to Grand Larceny in the Third Degree before Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski. This is the highest charge for which she could have been convicted had she gone to trial.
Rains admitted that during the period between April 1, 2012 through June 1, 2012, while employed by Classic Fence and Lumber Company, Inc., 3030 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst, as the bookkeeper, she stole approximately $18,544, using four different methods: she wrote two checks to herself and used the owners stamped signature without permission ($3,564); stole money from petty cash by writing checks for more than she was authorized ($5,122); stole a cash payment ($4,600) paid by a customer for a job and covered it up by crediting the same customer with a check from a different customer for less than that amount ($4,200); and wrote checks from the company’s account in the amounts of $2,240 and $3,017 for office supplies, endorsing them to herself. In the course of handling and stealing the company’s money, Rains altered and falsified the company’s records.
The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Susan H. Sadinsky, of the Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau.
Rains faces a maximum prison term of 7 years when she is sentenced before Justice Michalski on August 27, 2013 at 9:30 a.m.
Rains has two prior felony convictions for Attempted Burglary in the Third Degree. In 2003 she received a jail term of 6 months and in 2010 a jail term of 1-1/2-3 years.
