Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita, III announced that 31 year-old Jocelyn Ramey pleaded guilty as charged, to Grand Larceny in the Third Degree before Senior County Court Judge Michael D’Amico. This is the highest charge for which Ramey could have been convicted had she gone to trial. In other words, Ramey was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Between November 1, 2013 and January 11, 2014, Ramey stole fourteen (14) pieces of jewelry, for a total retail value of $9656.00, from the Reed’s Jewelers Amherst store, where she was formerly employed. Private Investigator and former Erie County Central Police Services Commissioner Peter Vito spearheaded the investigation and presented his findings to the District Attorney’s Office and, eventually, to the Erie County Grand Jury.
A Canadian citizen, Ramey is a flight risk and has therefore been held in custody (subject to the posting of $200,000 bail) since March 31, 2014, when she was arrested on an indictment warrant. Ramey faces a maximum of 2 ⅓ to 7 years in state prison when she is sentenced on June 4, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. by Judge D’Amico.
The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Holly P. Tucker, who is assigned to DA Sedita’s Financial Crimes Bureau.
