Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita, III announced that 21 year-old Ashley Sawicki of 3907 Harvard Street in the Town of Hamburg was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on a sealed indictment charging her with Leaving the Scene of Incident without Reporting, Resulting in a Fatality.

It is alleged that on July 15, 2014 at approximately 12:30 a.m., a vehicle driven by Sawicki struck and killed pedestrian Jennifer Martello on Big Tree Road in the Town of Hamburg. It is further alleged that Sawicki, knowing that she had struck and likely injured another person, fled the scene and failed to report the collision.

If convicted of this crime, Sawicki faces a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison.

Like all defendants accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
