Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita, III announced today that officials from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) along with the Department of Taxation and Finance released figures showing that the Erie County District Attorney’s Office Crimes Against Revenue Program (CARP) last year returned $573,288 to taxpayers.  In 2014, for every dollar provided to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office by DCJS, $1.44 has been returned to the public.  The CARP program has been in existence since 2005 and since that time, nearly $4.5 million has been returned to State coffers from Erie County alone. 

DCJS acknowledged the success of Erie County’s CARP Program by continuing to fund the Erie County District Attorney’s Office. DA Sedita added: “Because of the CARP program, this office is able to prosecute criminal tax cheats, as well as those who commit the crime of unemployment insurance fraud.  This continued funding ensures that we will be able to continue prosecuting such offenders and return money to the public treasury on behalf of honest and hardworking taxpayers.”
