First Assistant Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces that a State Supreme Court trial jury found 23 year-old Larry Cross guilty, as charged, of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree after a two week trial before Acting State Supreme Court Justice Russell P. Buscaglia.

On December 11, 2014, Cross went to the victim’s home armed with a loaded semi-automatic pistol and knocked on the side door.  When the victim came to the door, Cross fired four rounds in rapid succession, striking the victim in the arm, upper thigh and spine, and instantly paralyzing him.

The victim spent thirty-three days at the Erie County Medical Center receiving treatment for his injuries.  He continues to struggle with devastating effects of this crime.

Cross faces up to 25 years in state prison when he is sentenced on December 3, 2015 by Justice Buscaglia.

The case was successfully prosecuted by Senior Trial Counsel Christopher J. Belling and Assistant District Attorney Eugene T. Partridge, III, both of whom are assigned to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office Tactical Prosecution Unit. Noting the professional investigation spearheaded by Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad Detective Patricia Wrest, First ADA Flaherty added, “this case demonstrates how this office will aggressively prosecute those who commit violent crimes in our community.”
