Acting Erie County District Attorney, Michael J. Flaherty, Jr., announced that 41- year-old Antwan Lindsay has pleaded guilty as charged to one count of Robbery in the Third Degree before the Honorable Thomas P. Franczyk. The defendant pleaded to the highest sustainable charge for which he could have been convicted had he gone to trial.

On April 7, 2015, the defendant entered the M&T Bank located at 130 Grant Street, approached a teller, and handed her a note demanding that she provide him with all one-hundred dollar bills. After the teller gave the defendant over $1,700 in cash, Lindsay placed the money in a plastic bag, fled the bank, and threw the hat and sweatshirt he was wearing at the time of the robbery in a garbage can.

With the aid of security officials from M&T Bank, Officers Elizabeth Baker and Thomas James of the Buffalo Police Department arrested the defendant just minutes after the robbery, less than a mile from the scene.

A plastic bag recovered from the defendant’s person contained not only the money stolen from the bank, but also a New York State Department of Corrections Identification Card bearing Lindsay’s name and a magazine article on the use of disguises in bank robberies.

Lindsay was remanded into custody and will be sentenced on June 17, 2016 at 9:30 am by Judge Franczyk, where he faces up to seven years in state prison.

The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jeremy V. Murray.
