Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces 43-year-old Charles Henry of Grand Island has pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree and one count of Robbery in the Third Degree before State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang.
On January 20, 2016, Henry robbed Harry’s Gulf Mart on Delaware St. in Tonawanda. The defendant displayed a hammer and stole $250.
On February 8, 2016, Henry robbed the Summit Federal Credit Union on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, where he handed a note to the teller, claiming he had a bomb and got away with more than $10,000. The money was later recovered by the Buffalo Police.
Henry’s plea also includes several other robberies that occurred between January 20th and February 8th in Kenmore, the Town of Tonawanda, Amherst and Buffalo.
Henry is a twice convicted felon for previous robberies in Erie County. His bail was set at $50,000 and he was remanded to jail.
Henry faces a maximum sentence of up to 25-years to life and a minimum of 12-years to life when he is sentenced on June 3, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. before Justice Wolfgang.
Acting DA Flaherty is commending the outstanding work of law enforcement in Amherst, Buffalo, City of Tonawanda, Town of Tonawanda and Kenmore.
Assistant District Attorneys John G. Schoemick and Katharine S. Lavin prosecuted the case.
