Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces the arraignment of 26-year-old Jermaine Watkins of Buffalo on an indictment charging him with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case.

On March 20, 2016, Watkins fatally shot 24-year-old Kelvin Alexander of Buffalo on the second floor of a barber shop at 857 Genesee St. where a party was being held.  The shooting followed a brief argument between the two.

Acting DA Flaherty commends the investigative work of Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives Christopher Sterlace, Reginald Minor, Antonio Borrelli and Daniel Redmond.

Watkins was remanded to jail without bail. A pre-trial conference will be held once the case has been assigned to a judge.

Homicide Bureau Chief Colleen Curtin Cable is prosecuting the case.

As with all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
