Buffalo Man Charged In Deadly Car Crash

Acting District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces that 20 year-old Jamar Sales, formerly of Crestwood Avenue, Buffalo, New York, was arraigned before the Hon. Penny M. Wolfgang in State Supreme Court on a sealed indictment charging him with Criminally Negligent Homicide, Reckless Driving, Speeding, and Passing a Red light.  

It is alleged that on August 20, 2015, he drove his car, at a high rate of speed through a red light at Masten Ave. and Northampton St. in the City of Buffalo.  His vehicle crashed into a vehicle driven by 72 year old Sylvia deRosas who was proceeding through the intersection with a green light.  The resulting crash caused her death.  

Sales pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $10,000. 

If convicted of these crimes, Sales faces a maximum prison sentence of 4 years in state prison. 

Acting DA Flaherty commends the Buffalo Police Department Accident Investigation Unit for its thorough investigation. 

Like all defendants accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
