Buffalo Man Sentenced In Shooting Death Of Friend

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces that 44-year old Michael Greer, aka “Peanut” of Buffalo has been sentenced to 18 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision by Erie County Court Judge Sheila DiTullio.

In April, Greer pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree in the shooting death of his friend.

On September 10, 2015, at about 10:30 p.m., while in his home at 254 Orange Street, Michael Greer fatally shot his friend, 33-year old Michael Atkins of Buffalo during an argument while celebrating Greer’s birthday. 

Acting DA Flaherty credits Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives James Kaska, Brendan Kiefer and Patricia Wrest for their thorough investigative work. 

Assistant District Attorney Gary W. Hackbush prosecuted the case.
