Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces 42-year-old Veronica Reynolds of Buffalo has been arraigned before State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang on an indictment charging her with Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the Second Degree. 

On July 6, 2016, Reynolds fatally stabbed her boyfriend, 59-year-old Brian Smith in his apartment on Mohr Street in Buffalo.  During the deadly attack, Smith’s brother, Timothy Washington attempted to intervene and was stabbed in the leg by Reynolds. He is recovering from his injury. 

The case has been assigned to Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio and a court date has not yet been set. 

Acting DA Flaherty commends Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives Joy Jermain, James Kaska, Patricia Wrest and Richard Wagstaff for their thorough investigation. 

Reynolds pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail. 

Assistant District Attorneys John Patrick Feroleto and Timothy J. Garvin are prosecuting the case. 

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
