Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces that 24-year-old Denay Foster of Buffalo has been sentenced to 20 years in prison plus five years post-release supervision by Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio for causing the death of her baby.

In May, Foster pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree.

On September 23, 2015, Foster inflicted fatal injuries on her 5 month old daughter, Ver’Naylah Laventure at their home on 14th Street in Buffalo. The baby died of severe head trauma.

“This mother was unremorseful and indifferent regarding her daughter’s well-being,” says acting DA Flaherty. “She waited several hours before she took the injured baby to the hospital, but by then, it was too late.”

Acting DA Flaherty commends BPD Homicide Detectives James Kaska and Patricia Wrest for their investigative work.

The case was prosecuted by Homicide Bureau Chief Colleen Curtin Gable and Assistant District Attorney Erin E. Hart.
