Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces 46-year-old Mercedes Rosado of Buffalo has been sentenced to ten years in prison and five years post-release supervision by Erie County Court Judge Thomas P. Franczyk. 

In July, Rosado pleaded guilty to Robbery in the First Degree, the highest charge in the indictment against her.

On August 22, 2015, Rosado attacked 17-year-old Jaqualine Rosado (no relation) of Buffalo with a meat cleaver, cutting her face and breaking her nose and stealing her shoes and purse. 

Rosado also signed an order of protection requiring her to stay away from the victim until the year 2033.

“We are glad that the victim of the robbery survived and is doing well,” says acting DA Flaherty. “The defendant’s actions were extremely violent and threatening. I hope she receives treatment for her issues behind bars.”

Acting DA Flaherty commends the investigative work of Buffalo Police Lt. Steve Schulz, and Buffalo Police Officers Maurice Foster and Jill Halor.

Assistant District Attorney Sara Dee, Chief of DA Flaherty’s Forensic Psychiatric Unit prosecuted the case.
