Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces that 50-year-old Saundra Adams of Buffalo has been arraigned before Erie County Court Judge David W. Foley on an indictment charging her with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree.

It is alleged that on June 23, 1983, Adams and an unknown accomplice broke into a home on Hastings Avenue in Buffalo and caused the death of 92-year-old Edmund Schreiber, a World War I veteran awarded a purple heart for injuries suffered in battle.

“Thanks to superior police work, the evidence trail of a heinous murder that went cold has led us to today,” says acting DA Flaherty. “Even 33 years after the crime, we are committed to bringing the senseless death of a decorated serviceman to justice.”

Adams pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail.

Acting DA Flaherty salutes the outstanding efforts of the Buffalo Police Department, including Detective Scott Malec, Chief Joseph Gramaglia, Captain Ron Jentz, Commissioner Daniel Derenda and retired Detective Brian Ross for their unwavering commitment to this case.

Acting DA Flaherty also commends the professional scientific work of the Erie County Central Police Services Forensic Laboratory.

Acting DA Flaherty’s Senior Litigation Counsel, Thomas M. Finnerty is prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
