Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 23-year-old Joslyn Miller of Buffalo has pleaded guilty to Vehicular Assault in the First Degree before Erie County Court Judge Michael Pietruszka for causing a crash that seriously injured her passenger.
On 4/15/16 at approximately 1:10 a.m., while having a BAC of .22%, the defendant was driving at a high rate of speed southbound on Main Street near Sister's Hospital when she lost control of her car and crashed into a parked car. The collision caused serious physical injury to her passenger, 21-year-old Shaun Monae Williams of Buffalo.
Ms. Williams sustained a broken femur, hip and arm as a result. She also sustained an orbital fracture and severe nerve damage. She required multiple surgeries as a result of the collision.
DA Flynn commends the thorough investigative work of Buffalo Police Department Accident Investigation Unit, including Lt. Thomas Leatherbarrow and Officer Robert Delaney.
The defendant faces a maximum of 7 years in prison when she is sentenced by Judge Pietruszka on April 24, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.
Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief Kelley A. Omel is prosecuting the case.
