Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 33-year-old Daren Alexis of Buffalo has been arraigned by State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns on an indictment charging him with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

It is alleged that on August 5, 2016, about 1:20 p.m., in the vicinity of 128 French Street, Buffalo, Alexis fatally shot the victim, 26-year-old Jadero Kelley of Buffalo.

The defendant pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail. If convicted of all the charges, Alexis faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends the investigative work of Buffalo Police Captain Randall Ammerman and Homicide Detectives Michael Mordino, Richard Wagstaff, Christopher Sterlace and William Cooley.

Assistant District Attorney Gary W. Hackbush of DA Flynn’s Homicide Bureau is prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
