Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 31-year-old Sirwilliam Hardy of Cheektowaga has been arraigned by State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller on an indictment charging him with Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree in the death of his father.

It is alleged that on April 3, 2017 at the defendant’s home at 212 Whitney Place in Cheektowaga, Hardy fatally shot his father, 54-year-old William Hardy of Fairfield, California.

Sirwilliam Hardy pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail.

If convicted of the charges, Hardy faces a maximum sentence of 40 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends the investigative work of the Cheektowaga Police Department, including Lt. Tom Wentland and Detectives Christopher Chojnacki, David Mossman and Jim Genson.

Assistant District Attorney Michael D. Smith in the DA’s Homicide Bureau is prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
