Amherst Man Admits Stealing $318,000 From Medical Facility

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 55-year-old William Gajewski of Amherst has pleaded guilty before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case to Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, Forgery in the Second Degree and Criminal Tax Fraud in the Fourth Degree in connection with a theft at a medical facility.

From March 1, 2015, to December 31, 2016, Gajewski admitted stealing $318,000 from Buffalo Rheumatology and Medicine in Orchard Park while he was serving as office manager.

Gajewski forged documents for false expenses to support checks which were then deposited in his personal bank account.

The defendant also admits failing to pay $11,744 in back taxes from 2016.

The defendant faces 5-15 years in prison when he is sentenced by Judge Case on January 30, 2018 at 9:30 a.m.

DA Flynn commends the investigative work of Detective John Payne of the Orchard Park Police Department and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

Assistant District Attorney Gary M. Ertel of the DA’s Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau prosecuted the case.
