Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 30-year-old Damone A. Hennings of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday morning before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes to one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class “D” felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the only charge in the indictment against him on the day jury selection was scheduled to begin in his upcoming trial.

On March 14, 2020, at approximately 12:26 p.m., an elderly man encountered the defendant after hearing a knock on the front door of his residence on Box Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The defendant hit the elderly man in the face, which caused the victim to fall. While the victim was on the floor, defendant hit the victim in the face multiple times before fleeing from the residence. The victim was treated for a laceration above his left eye and bruising and swelling to his face. The suspected motive was retaliation for a domestic dispute between the defendant and a member of victim’s family.
