Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 34-year-old Krystal Rains of Kenmore has been sentenced by State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski to 3-6 years in prison.

In March 2018, Rains pleaded guilty to six counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the First Degree, one count of Possession of a Forged Device and one count of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree.

The defendant admitted to forging $20 Federal Reserve Notes to make purchases at Walmart, Home Depot and CVS. A search warrant executed at the defendant’s home uncovered templates and other tools used to make counterfeit bills.

DA Flynn commends investigative work by the Amherst Police Department and the United States Secret Service.

Candace K. Vogel, Chief of the DA’s Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau, prosecuted the case.
